Difference Between SATA and PATA /IDE

SATA

SATA stands for Serial Advance Technology Attachment . In SATA data is transfer bit by bit (as it is serial) but the way of data transfer is two way . mean one side is for coming into the system and other for going out of the system . as shown in the figure .SATA HD

data transfer rate varies from 150 , 300 , 600 as the version of SATA drive .there are two cables one for transfer of data and 2nd for power supply                                                                                                                      

IDE /PATA

PATA /IDE   Parallel advance Technology Attachment or integrated device electronic is derive which use the parallel technique to transfer the data . if there are 16 pin it means that 16 bit are transferring at one time . 
PATA is slow and old technology . the transfer reate of PATA or IDE is upto 120 megabyte .
